Cache River Wetlands Center

Located on Route 37, about three miles south of Cypress, IL, the Henry N. Barkhausen Cache River Wetlands Center is a great “first stop” for anyone visiting the Cache. The 7,000 square-foot facility, owned and operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, offers a variety of interpretive exhibits and information about the natural and cultural history of the Cache River Wetlands. An award winning 12-minute orientation film, “The Enduring Cache,” provides an excellent introduction to the region’s flora and fauna, as well as its fascinating human history. The center hosts a variety of educational programs throughout the year, and includes a wildlife viewing area and walking trails featuring both wetland and prairie communities.
